What periods do these cabinets come from?

The pieces span from the eighteenth century through the Victorian era and into the Edwardian period. Many examples date from the revival movements around nineteen hundred. Earlier eighteenth-century pieces are less common and typically feature simpler George III lines, while Edwardian versions lean towards lighter Sheraton Revival designs.

How were these cabinets originally used?

Owners utilised them in drawing rooms and libraries to store and display valuable books, ceramic collections, and family curiosities. The glazed doors protected delicate items from dust while keeping them visible. Some variants included writing surfaces or lower cupboards for concealed storage, combining utility with formal display functions.

How do I care for satinwood veneer?

Protect the timber from direct sunlight to prevent the distinctive yellow tone from fading or altering over time. Maintain a stable indoor environment to keep the underlying wood and veneer from warping. Apply traditional wax polish sparingly to nourish the surface and preserve the natural sheen of the grain.

How can I tell a revival piece from an older one?

Examine the secondary woods inside the carcase and the construction methods used for the drawers and backboards. Victorian and Edwardian Sheraton Revival pieces often utilise machine-sawn timbers and different construction tolerances than eighteenth-century originals. Maker stamps and trade labels left inside drawers or on the back frame also help confirm the correct period of manufacture.
