Will modern mattresses fit these?

Standard double and king size mattresses generally fit nineteenth-century frames, though exact internal dimensions require checking before purchase. Older frames can possess slight variations in sizing compared to contemporary standard mattress dimensions.

How do I assemble these beds?

Most historic metal bed frames use wedge-locked side rails that slot directly into the headboard and footboard castings without modern screws. Careful alignment during assembly ensures the iron and brass components sit square and stable.

How do I clean brass frames?

Dusting with a soft cloth removes everyday particles without disturbing the surface metal. Harsh chemical polishes should be avoided to preserve the historical patina accumulated across the Victorian period.

What is a half tester?

A half tester incorporates a partial canopy extending over the upper portion of the mattress from the headboard. This architectural feature historically held curtains to keep sleeping areas warm and private.
