How do I hang an antique oriental wall dish safely?

Displaying these chargers securely requires a professionally fitted spring-loaded wall hanger designed specifically for heavy ceramic or metal plates. Ensure the fixing grips the rim firmly without placing excessive pressure on any single point. Position the dish away from direct sunlight and high traffic areas to protect the delicate enamels and gold leaf details from accidental damage.

What is the difference between Imari and Satsuma wares?

Imari pieces consist of hard porcelain decorated with deep cobalt blue, iron red, and gilding, typically featuring geometric and floral patterns. They offer a bright, resonant surface finish. Satsuma items utilise an earthenware body covered in a crackle-glaze ivory finish, traditionally embellished with densely detailed figurative or natural scenes often enhanced with raised moriage work.

Were these dishes meant for dining?

Large chargers and decorative plaques served primarily as ornamental display pieces in both Asian interiors and European drawing rooms. Their generous scale and elaborate surface decoration made them unsuited for practical food service. Craftsmen designed them to be admired on walls or mounted on heavy stands to showcase fine artistic techniques.
