What rooms suit a marquetry inlaid tripod table?

These compact tables fit readily beside armchairs as lamp or wine stands, or in hallways as decorative occasional surfaces. Their small footprint allows them to occupy awkward corners without dominating the floor space.

How do I care for the wood veneer?

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the veneers from drying and lifting. Apply a traditional wax polish occasionally to nourish the grain and maintain the natural lustre.

What is a tilt top used for?

The pivoting mechanism lets the surface fold flat against the pillar for easy storage out of the way. In period homes, this saved valuable floor space when the room was cleared between uses.

How do I date a tripod table?

Look to the turning style of the central column and the shaping of the three feet for stylistic clues. The choice of primary timbers and the complexity of the inlay also point toward specific decades.
