Where were these chairs used?

These open armchairs were principally placed in libraries, studies, and drawing rooms for reading and writing at large desks. Their generous proportions accommodated formal eighteenth-century dress while offering comfortable support during long hours of study.

How do I care for leather upholstery?

Leather surfaces benefit from regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth and occasional treatment with appropriate conservation balms to maintain flexibility. Keep these chairs away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent the hide from drying and cracking.

What defines George III style?

The George III period spans the late eighteenth century, defined by classical restraint, balanced proportions, and refined mahogany carving. Chairs from this era often display straight moulded legs or subtle bracket supports, reflecting Palladian and neoclassical influences.

Are revival pieces considered authentic antiques?

Nineteenth and early twentieth-century revival pieces are period antiques in their own right, constructed during later revivals of Georgian taste. These later chairs replicate the generous proportions and carved details of earlier eighteenth-century models using period timber and traditional methods.
