What is a partners writing table?

A partners writing table is built to accommodate two people sitting opposite each other, featuring working drawers on both sides. These large tables were traditionally used in offices and libraries where two individuals needed shared access to workspace and storage.

How do I date a leather writing table?

Dating relies on identifying the timber species, construction methods, and stylistic cues associated with periods such as Georgian or Victorian. Secondary woods, handle types, and leg profiles like reeded legs or pedestal columns provide clear chronological markers.

Are the leather tops original?

Many tables retain their original leather writing surfaces, though some have been restored or replaced during their working lives. Original leathers often show rich patination, wear patterns, and blind or gilt tooling appropriate to the period of the desk.

Where should I place a library table?

Library tables are designed as freestanding pieces intended for placement in the centre of a room rather than against a wall. Because the rear is finished to the same standard as the front, they can be viewed from all angles in an interior space.
