How do I install antique wall lights?

Most period wall lights require professional electrical installation to mount securely to the wall junction box and adapt internal wiring safely. Heavier bronze and giltwood pairs demand sturdy wall anchors to support their substantial weight properly.

What periods do these wall lights date from?

The pieces span from the nineteenth century through the 1950s, encompassing nineteenth-century revival styles and mid-century interpretations. French pieces from the early twentieth century form a large part of the selection, alongside earlier nineteenth-century examples.

How do I clean gilded brass and bronze?

Gilded surfaces require gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth to prevent abrasion of the thin gold leaf or ormolu layer. Avoid liquid metal cleaners entirely, as harsh chemicals strip away historic gilding permanently.

Can these lights be used with modern bulbs?

Many wired wall lights accept standard screw or bayonet bulbs, though some rewiring may be necessary to meet current safety standards. Low-wattage LED candle bulbs work well to replicate the soft glow of traditional twin candles without generating excess heat.
