How do I date a gold heart pendant necklace?

Dating relies on hallmarks, metal purity standards like 15ct gold, and stylistic clues such as the presence of seed pearls or specific gemstone combinations typical of the Victorian and Edwardian periods. Examining the construction of the bail, the cut of the diamonds, and any engraved dates on the reverse helps narrow the decade of manufacture.

Can I wear these antique necklaces daily?

Many of these pieces are robust enough for regular wear, particularly solid gold versions and those set with sturdy stones like diamonds and rubies. Delicate items featuring hollow puffy forms or seed pearls require more care to avoid crushing or moisture exposure during daily activities.

What does 15ct gold mean on antique jewellery?

The 15ct gold standard indicates an alloy containing 62.5 percent pure gold, a British purity mark that was legally discontinued in the early twentieth century. Finding this hallmark confirms a piece is safely rooted in the Victorian or Edwardian era before the introduction of 9ct and 18ct standards.
