Gilt Bronze Vase Lamp
These gilt bronze vase lamp pieces bring nineteenth-century porcelain and gilt bronze mountings into domestic lighting.
Gilt Bronze Vase Lamp
A gilt bronze vase lamp combines nineteenth-century Chinese porcelain with European gilt bronze mounts to create a table lamp. The forms include large Famille Verte vessels and blue and white vases.
The style draws on nineteenth-century Chinoiserie taste, merging Eastern ceramics with Western mounting techniques. These pieces stand as table lamps designed to light a room while retaining their decorative ceramic character.
How they were made
Maker-craftsmen used porcelain bodies decorated with enamel paints in blue and white or Famille Verte palettes. Artisans then fitted these ceramic vessels with gilt bronze mounts to secure the lamp fittings.
Silk elements complete the construction alongside the porcelain and metal components. The combination required both ceramic production and bronze-working skills.
