What is a georgian study table?

A georgian study table is a wooden desk or writing table produced during the eighteenth century or later in the same style. These pieces provide functional work surfaces equipped with drawers for storage. They serve as practical furniture for home offices and studies while adding traditional aesthetic value to a room.

How do I identify a genuine period piece?

Examine the timber, construction methods and hardware to determine age and authenticity. Traditional dovetailing and period-appropriate secondary woods provide clues to the manufacturing date. Compare the style and proportions against documented examples from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Where should I place a partners desk?

A partners desk is designed to stand away from walls so that people can sit on opposite sides. Placing it in the centre of a study or library allows full access to drawers and workspace on all sides. Ensure there is sufficient clearance around the desk for chairs to pull out comfortably.

How do I care for leather writing surfaces?

Leather inserts require gentle cleaning with a damp cloth and occasional treatment with appropriate leather dressings to prevent cracking. Avoid placing hot cups or liquids directly on the leather surface. Keeping the room humidity stable helps preserve both the leather and the surrounding wood.
