How do I hang a heavy framed canvas?

These oil paintings on canvas require sturdy wall fixings due to the weight of the wood and gesso frames. Secure hooks directly into wall studs or use heavy-duty wall anchors designed for picture hanging. Ensure the hanging wire or brackets on the back of the frame match the support capacity of your chosen wall hardware. Level the piece carefully to display the landscape correctly.

What lighting suits an oil painting?

Display these canvases away from direct sunlight to protect the oil pigments and gesso frames from fading or heat damage. Gentle, indirect light reveals the texture of the brushwork without causing glare on the varnished surface. Picture lights mounted above the frame can highlight the detail in rural and pastoral scenes. Keep the illumination cool and controlled to preserve the materials over time.

Are these paintings original works?

The pieces listed are original oil paintings on canvas created by individual artists, rather than modern reproductions or prints. Many feature signatures, dates, or historical attributions from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Examining the reverse of the canvas and the construction of the wooden stretcher frames helps confirm the period materials used.
