How do I care for an oil painting?

Keep the canvas away from direct sunlight and sudden temperature shifts to prevent the paint from drying out or cracking. Dust the surface gently with a soft, dry brush without applying pressure. Avoid using water or liquid cleaners on the paint or the wood frame. Professional conservators should handle any deeper cleaning or structural repairs.

What subjects are most common?

Landscapes, rural farmyards, and coastal views dominate the available selection. Artists frequently depicted daily life, agricultural labour, and regional architecture. Portraiture and figurative genre scenes also appear regularly across the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

How do I date an antique canvas?

Examine the materials of the stretcher and the weave of the canvas behind the frame. Older pieces often utilise handmade wooden wedges and hand-woven linen supports. Stylistic markers, framing techniques, and artist signatures or labels provide further clues to the decade of creation.

Are these paintings ready to hang?

Most works come equipped with a period wood frame and hanging wire attached to the reverse. They arrive ready for display on a wall. Buyers should check the weight of the frame and ensure proper wall fixings are used to support the piece safely.
