Why are these chests made in two parts?

Dividing the furniture into stacked upper and lower modules made loading onto pack animals and ships manageable for travelling officers. This modular design also simplified movement through narrow corridors and temporary encampments.

What is the difference between a trunk and a chest?

Trunks generally feature a single hinged lift-up lid for bulk storage of clothing or blankets. Chests of drawers incorporate sliding tiers designed for structured civilian or military attire.

How do I identify camphor wood?

Camphor wood is easily recognised by its distinct, medicinal aroma that remains potent even after centuries. The timber displays a pale golden tone with varied grain patterns and excellent resistance to dampness.

Can I use a campaign chest as a coffee table?

Lower trunk variants and cellarettes make exceptional coffee tables due to their flat tops and sturdy proportions. Their brass bindings and rich timbers add character and practical surface space to contemporary living rooms.
