Where should I place a floor vase?

These monumental vessels suit large hallways, entrance lobbies, or spacious reception rooms where their height and colour create a strong visual anchor. Position them away from heavy foot traffic to protect the delicate hand-painted enamel surfaces from accidental impacts.

Are these vases meant for fresh flowers?

Most antique floor vases function primarily as decorative architectural statements rather than water-holding vessels for fresh botanical displays. Using them dry preserves the interior ceramic and prevents moisture damage to older glazes and original wooden stands.

How do I care for antique porcelain?

Dust the ceramic surface gently with a soft, dry cloth to prevent the accumulation of dirt within recessed enamel details. Avoid chemical cleaning products and lift the vessel carefully by the body rather than the rim or decorative handles when moving it.

How can I tell a nineteenth century piece apart?

Nineteenth century examples often display characteristic Cantonese famille rose palettes, heavy potting, and distinctive turquoise or white interior glazes. Examining the brushwork quality and the wear on the base helps distinguish these older export pieces from later twentieth century reproductions.
