How do I identify a Georgian armchair?

Georgian armchairs typically feature mahogany or walnut frames with carved details such as claw-and-ball feet or pierced splat backs. They reflect architectural influences of the 18th century. Inspect the joinery under the seat and examine the timber grain to confirm the period characteristics and material authenticity.

What is a library armchair used for?

Library armchairs were built with deep seats and sturdy wooden frames to provide comfort during reading or studying. They often feature leather upholstery for durability. These chairs usually stood in private studies or domestic libraries, pairing utility with formal design.

How do I care for leather upholstery?

Leather upholstery requires gentle dusting and occasional treatment with appropriate leather conditioners to prevent drying and cracking. Avoid placing antique chairs in direct sunlight. Maintaining stable room humidity protects both the leather covering and the underlying wooden frame from environmental damage.
