How do I use a drop leaf desk in a modern room?

These tables adapt well to contemporary spaces by folding down against a wall to function as a side table when floor space is tight. Raising both leaves creates a functional writing surface or small desk for daily work. The integrated drawers provide practical storage for stationery and small items, keeping surfaces clear. Placing the piece behind a sofa or in a hallway makes full use of its narrow profile.

How do I care for antique rosewood and mahogany?

Protect the polished wood surfaces by keeping pieces away from direct sunlight and radiators, which can cause the timber to dry and split. Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth preserves the finish without requiring heavy polishes. Applying a traditional beeswax occasionally helps nourish the grain and maintain the natural lustre of the wood. Avoid placing damp items directly onto the leather or polished wooden top.

Can I use these tables for daily writing?

Most of these pieces were built specifically for correspondence and administrative tasks, making them suitable for light modern writing use. The inclusion of fitted drawers and leather writing inserts supports this daily function. Care should be taken with older mechanisms and hinged leaf supports to avoid overloading the extended flaps. Using a blotter protects the antique leather surface from ink marks and indentations.
