What is a campaign chest?

A campaign chest is a portable storage cabinet built in sections so military officers could transport their belongings easily during travels. These units feature recessed brass handles and reinforced corners to withstand frequent loading and rough handling on ships or wagons.

How do I care for camphor wood?

Camphor wood requires minimal maintenance due to its natural oils, which repel insects and help preserve the timber. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent the wood from drying out or splitting.

Are brass mounts original?

Original brass mounts show consistent patination and are secured with period-appropriate slotted screws rather than modern fixings. Replacements often leave slight timber scarring or utilise clean brass that lacks decades of handling and oxidation.
