Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian cast iron hall stand serves as a practical and decorative hallway accessory. The piece is formed from white painted cast iron, shaped into an elaborate openwork frame of delicate scrollwork with ornate upright supports, scrolled feet, and a pointed finial at the crown. Multiple upward-curving coat hooks project from the upper section, accompanied by two circular umbrella rings and an integrated lift-out drip tray positioned at the base. Measuring 156 cm high by 57 cm wide with a 25 cm depth, the stand is suited for placement beside a front door in a hallway or boot room. It provides organised hanging space for garments alongside dedicated holders for wet umbrellas and walking sticks, keeping entranceways tidy.

Hall stands emerged in the nineteenth century as dedicated storage items for entranceways, designed to hold coats, top hats, walking sticks, and umbrellas while preventing rainwater from damaging residential flooring.

These items were produced by pouring molten iron into sand moulds, allowing foundries to create intricate decorative scrollwork, foliate motifs, and integrated structural elements like drip pans in a single casting process.

Authentic pieces feature heavy casting, distinct foundry registration marks or numbers stamped into the iron on the reverse, and removable drip trays at the base rather than modern welded fabrications.

Position the piece in a modern entryway or hallway to serve as functional architectural storage, pairing painted ironwork with natural timber or stone flooring to balance visual weight.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and inspect for chipped paint or surface oxidisation, treating bare iron spots with an anti-rust primer and enamel coat.
