FAQs

A Georgian corner washstand is a specialized piece of furniture designed during the 18th and early 19th centuries to fit into the corner of a bedroom or dressing room, featuring a cutout top to hold a wash basin and pitcher.

These washstands were typically constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or satinwood, often incorporating secondary timbers like pine, with brass or turned wooden knobs on the drawers.

Authentic pieces feature period construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails on drawers, traditional timber shrinkage, appropriate tool marks, and a natural patina consistent with age and use.

It can be utilized as an inventive corner display unit in a bathroom, hallway, or living space to hold plants, small sculptures, or decorative objects, adding historic character to contemporary spaces.

Preserve the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, avoiding silicone-based polishes, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to maintain the finish.
