Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

This Regency mahogany whatnot from around 1800 combines display and storage in a warm brown timber. The piece stands 121 cm high, 43 cm wide, and 40 cm deep, making it a practical choice for an empty corner in a living room or hallway. It features a low gallery back on the top shelf, three open display levels supported by finely turned spindles, and a base cupboard enclosed by a single panelled door with a lockable storage section. Turned legs support the structure near the floor, adding height and elegance to the overall design. The polished mahogany exhibits rich grain variations throughout the warm brown surfaces. The tiered open shelves provide suitable space for displaying decorative plates or ornaments, while the lower cabinet keeps household items neatly concealed.

A whatnot is a piece of portable furniture with open shelves designed during the late 18th and early 19th centuries to display ornaments, books, and collections. Popular during the Regency era, these units often featured turned column supports and occasionally integrated lower cupboards.

Regency whatnots were primarily crafted from solid mahogany or timber layered with mahogany veneers, featuring hand-turned spindle supports, hand-cut joinery in cupboard sections, and brass hardware fittings.

Authentic Regency pieces feature hand-turned supports, original brass fitments, warm wood patination, and evidence of hand-sawing or hand-planing on unexposed timber surfaces such as the rear back panel.

A Regency whatnot can be integrated into contemporary living rooms, hallways, or dining spaces as a vertical display stand for ceramics, books, or indoor foliage, offering multi-tiered storage with a compact footprint.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, apply a dedicated beeswax polish sparingly once or twice per year following the wood grain, and position the piece away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources.
