This imposing Louis XIV style commode follows a model by Antoine-Robert Gaudreau, reflecting French Rococo design from 1930. The piece is constructed from ebonised wood with a hand-burnished black finish, complemented by a green serpentine verde alpi marble top and silver-plated bronze ormolu mounts. Notable details include a rocaille-framed Apollo mask, dragon and acanthus handles across two pairs of drawers, and acanthus-sheathed cabriole legs terminating in bullrush scrolled sabots. The commode measures 92 cm high, 165 cm wide, and 65 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this large statement commode serves as a striking focal point in a formal living room, hallway, or principal bedroom. It provides practical surface space and substantial storage behind its decorative drawer fronts, anchoring traditional or eclectic interior schemes with its ornate architectural presence.

Louis XV style commodes are characterised by their Rococo influence, featuring asymmetrical curves, serpentine or bombe fronts, cabriole legs, and elaborate gilt or silvered bronze ormolu mounts.

These pieces traditionally feature hardwood frames inlaid with veneers or finished with lacquer or ebonisation, topped with contoured natural marble slabs, and decorated with chased ormolu mounts.

Authentic period pieces often feature maker stamps (estampilles), hand-cut dovetail joints, original chiseled bronze hardware with age-appropriate patination, and hand-cut underside woodwork.

A Rococo commode creates a focal point when placed in a neutral hallway or dining room, paired with modern abstract artwork or contemporary lighting to contrast the detailed bronze metalwork.

Dust the ebonised wood surface regularly with a soft dry microfiber cloth, clean the marble top using pH-neutral stone cleaner, and gently wipe the bronze mounts without abrasive polishes that could strip the original finish.
