This French panetiere bread cupboard dates from 1800 and belongs to the French Provincial style. It is constructed from pale walnut with pine back and top components, finished in a warm brown timber colour with a natural patina. The structure includes carved cabriole legs with scroll feet, a row of slender turned balusters across the front and sides, an array of upward-pointing turned finials along the top frieze, and a central cabinet door secured by an iron lock plate. Intricate floral relief carvings adorn the central door panel, the arched cresting above, and the lower front apron, while evidence of historic worm appears in one back rail. The overall dimensions measure 102 cm high, 85 cm wide, and 43 cm deep. In a contemporary interior, this wall cupboard is designed for placement above a sideboard to store kitchen items or display decorative homeware.

A panetiere is a traditional Provencal hanging bread cupboard originating from Southern France, historically used to store and protect freshly baked bread.

Panetieres are typically crafted from hardwoods such as walnut or oak, featuring spindle or baluster sides for ventilation and relief-carved panels with regional motifs.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display hand-carved decorative motifs, original iron hardware, pegged mortise and tenon joinery, and evidence of hand-tool marks on unexposed surfaces.

A panetiere can be wall-mounted above a kitchen counter or sideboard, or displayed on a tabletop as a decorative focal point in dining spaces or hallways.

Clean the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood and protect against drying or cracking.
