Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Napoleon III side table from the late 19th century combines black ebonised wood with warm brown fruitwood veneer, brass, and glass. The top surface displays a detailed floral marquetry inlay within a dark border, accompanied by a single frieze drawer fitted with a small round knob. Below the main compartment, two mirrored tiers provide extra display surfaces, held within frames that echo the dark and metallic tones of the upper section. Slender fluted legs support the tiered structure, descending to delicate hoof feet at floor level. Brass mounts accent the corners and joints, adding metallic contrast to the dark timber. Measuring 77 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 35 cm deep, this tiered occasional table fits comfortably beside a sofa or in a hallway corner to hold lamps, books, or decorative objects.

FAQs

Popularised in nineteenth-century France, particularly during the Napoleon III era, tiered side tables or etageres feature multiple open shelves designed to display small decorative objects alongside practical tabletop space.

These pieces often combine fine cabinet woods like walnut or fruitwood with ebonised borders, detailed marquetry inlay, turned brass or gilt-metal supports, and glass or mirrored tier surfaces.

Authentic period tables display hand-cut wood marquetry, cast metal mounts fitted to turned legs, original drawer joinery, and natural age-related foxing on mirrored inserts.

Position the piece beside an armchair or sofa, using the wooden top for a table lamp and the lower mirrored shelves to display books or decorative objects.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth, clean glass inserts with non-ammonia cleaner applied directly to a cloth, and keep the item away from direct heat sources to prevent wood veneer from lifting.
