Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

This nineteenth century French country game block originates from the rustic farmhouse tradition. Composed of dark brown beech wood, the piece displays a circular end-grain top with a deep vertical split running down the side, showing visible surface marks and heavy weathering. A tripod base supports the heavy top, consisting of three hand-shaped, splayed wooden legs inserted into the underside. The entire construction has a raw, utilitarian finish that highlights the natural grain and irregularities of the timber. Measuring 44 cm wide by 41 cm deep and 66 cm high, the block provides a compact footprint suitable for various living spaces. Placed beside a chair or sofa in a sitting room, or positioned within a fireplace alcove, it functions as a distinct end table or display surface. The sturdy structure and heavy timber construction allow it to hold small lamps, books, or decorative objects, adding an authentic rustic element to traditional or contemporary interiors.

FAQs

A primitive game block is a heavy timber preparation station historically used in French country kitchens and rural estates for processing poultry and game.

These items were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as beech, oak, or elm to ensure durability against heavy impact.

Authentic pieces feature deep surface scarring, uneven wear patterns from heavy cleaver use, hand-carved joinery, and natural contraction splits in the timber.

Interior designers frequently use these sculptural wooden items as accent side tables, plant stands, or architectural focal points in living rooms and entryways.

Maintain the timber by dusting with a dry cloth and applying natural beeswax occasionally to preserve the wood without altering its historical patina.
