Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This Venetian Rococo style console table dates from 1870 and follows the design manner of Pauly et Cie. The piece is constructed from wood with mirror glass panels and displays an original sage green painted finish combined with parcel gilt highlights. The upper tier incorporates a mirrored back panel surmounted by shell cresting, flanked by carved giltwood dolphin supports, and sits above a serpentine open shelf. The lower section includes a mirrored back flanked by turned spiral columns resting on claw feet, all edged with raised gilded mouldings. The mirrors exhibit foxing and age spots, and the green paint shows subtle wear to the edges. The unit measures 151.5 cm high by 122.5 cm wide and 42 cm deep. Suitable for placement in a hallway, drawing room, or dining area to display decorative objects.

FAQs

Venetian Rococo furniture, prominent during the 18th century, features delicate curves, pastel polychrome paint finishes, and carved giltwood ornament inspired by marine motifs and scrollwork.

Craftsmen typically utilised softwoods coated with gesso, painted with tempera or oil pigments, and detailed with leaf gilding alongside mirrored glass inserts.

Authentic items exhibit natural paint crazing, hand-carved joinery on the structural frame, distressing consistent with age, and hand-applied leaf gilding over a clay bole ground.

Position the cabinet against a neutral wall in a hallway or reception space, balancing the serpentine profile with understated table lamps or contemporary ceramics.

Dust gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or camel-hair brush, avoiding water, liquid cleaners, and direct sunlight to prevent flaking and lacquer oxidisation.
