Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Victorian Country washstand is rendered in pine with a warm brown stained finish and visible natural grain. The piece takes the form of a rectangular table with bobbin turned front legs, square back legs, a shaped gallery splashback, and a central single drawer fitted with a small round wooden knob handle. Signs of age include minor surface wear and tonal variations across the wood. Measuring 95 cm high, 84 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, the washstand fits well beside a front door as a compact hallway console or practical drop zone for daily essentials in a rustic farmhouse interior.

FAQs

Originally designed for bedrooms prior to the widespread adoption of indoor plumbing, nineteenth-century washstands held water ewers, basins, and soap dishes for daily personal grooming.

These washstands were typically constructed from solid Scots pine or pitch pine, utilizing hand-cut dovetail joints for the drawers and hand-turned wooden legs.

Authentic period examples display hand-planed timber surfaces, historic natural shrinkage along timber joints, original turned wooden handles, and authentic wear around the splashback and feet.

A pine washstand functions effectively as a hallway console table, a compact desk in a home office, or adapted into a cloakroom basin unit.

Maintain the timber by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish twice yearly, keeping the furniture away from direct heat sources.
