Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century tavern bench is a rustic farmhouse seating piece made from solid pine with a warm honey pine finish. The design displays a high back constructed from horizontal tongue and groove wooden planks, flanked by curved shaped side panels that form integrated armrests above a flat plank seat. Visible details include knots in the timber, a timeworn surface patina, and simple pegged board joinery securing the long bench. It stands on plain block feet with a low solid apron running beneath the seat. Measuring 91 cm high, 186 cm wide, and 50 cm deep with a 40 cm seat height, it provides generous communal seating for daily use. In a contemporary interior, this bench serves as practical and decorative seating in an entrance hallway, a rustic kitchen dining area, or alongside a farmhouse dining table. The sturdy wooden construction offers durable seating capacity for family dining or social gatherings. The heritage aesthetic brings warmth and utilitarian character to interior spaces while blending seamlessly with both traditional and transitional decor styles.

FAQs

A tavern bench, or settle, is a high-backed wooden seat historically used in public houses, inns, and country kitchens to provide seating while shielding occupants from cold draughts.

These pieces are traditionally crafted from solid pine timber, featuring horizontal tongue-and-groove backboards, flat plank seats, and shaped side panels joined with historic woodworking methods.

Authentic 19th-century settles exhibit signs of age-related wear, hand-planed surfaces, natural timber contraction around knots, traditional joinery, and an established patina.

A pine settle functions effectively in an entryway, hallway, or dining room alongside a rustic table, complemented by natural linen textiles or wool throws.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to maintain the timber while keeping the item positioned away from direct heat sources.
