A teapoy is a small pedestal table or box designed during the 18th and 19th centuries to hold various types of tea, which was an expensive commodity at the time. The Regency period brought refined classical proportions and ornate decorative veneers to these pieces.

These pieces were typically constructed from high-grade timber such as mahogany or rosewood, frequently embellished with contrasting wood veneers, stringing, and elaborate marquetry or brass inlay, often supported by a central pillar and splayed legs.

Authentic pieces generally display period-appropriate joinery, hand-cut dovetails, genuine timber shrinkage, and hand-applied finishes such as shellac or wax, alongside period brass castors and working interior compartments.

Such accent furniture works well as an occasional piece beside a seating area or as a display surface in a traditional or transitional living space, allowing its historical craftsmanship to stand out against neutral backdrops.

Maintenance requires avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, dusting regularly with a dry soft cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber without harming the historic finish.
