FAQs

William IV furniture, produced roughly between 1830 and 1837, bridges late Regency and early Victorian aesthetics, heavily favouring robust classical proportions, bold carved details, and dark exotic timbers like rosewood and mahogany.

Cabinet makers typically utilised solid or veneered Brazilian rosewood over a secondary softwood or mahogany carcass, featuring turned central pillars, robust platform bases, and concealed brass castors for mobility.

Authentication relies on examining hand-cut joints, original timber oxidisation, traditional shellac polish or French polish finishes, and period-appropriate hardware such as brass castors and working leaf or drawer mechanisms.

Pairing historical timber pieces with minimalist upholstery, contemporary lighting, or clean architectural lines creates a curated, layered interior that highlights the rich grain and craftsmanship of the antique.

Maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, dusting gently with a dry cloth and occasionally applying pure beeswax polish.
