Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Scottish Neoclassical washstand from 1890 works as a decorative table in a home today. Constructed from mahogany, marble, brass, and boxwood, the piece has a warm brown colour with a pink marble top and a raised gallery back. The design incorporates a removable marble top, a marble shelf to the gallery, two drawers with swan neck brass handles, square tapered legs, and supporting stretchers. Additional visual details visible on the body include string inlay on the drawers and around the top surface, along with fluted central decoration between the drawers and turned elements on the lower legs. Practical dimensions are 98 cm high, 130 cm wide, and 60 cm deep, with a table top height of 76.5 cm.

FAQs

Sheraton-style furniture is characterised by Neoclassical proportions, slender tapered legs, intricate wood marquetry or stringing, and rectangular silhouettes popularised in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany or walnut frames, decorative timber veneers such as boxwood or satinwood inlay, brass handles, and fitted marble tops with raised galleries.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, natural oxidisation on the undersides of timber surfaces, original brass hardware with hand-cut screws, and fitted timber marquetry.

Position the desk as an entry hall console table or place it in a study alongside contemporary seating to create contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern design.

Clean timber surfaces with a soft microfibre cloth and beeswax, while wiping the marble top immediately after contact with liquids using a pH-neutral cleaner to prevent staining.
