The George III style spans the mid-to-late 18th century, characterised by refined classical proportions, skilled cabinet-making techniques, and a transition from heavy mahogany designs to lighter, neoclassical influences.

Cabinet-makers of this period predominantly used solid mahogany, often combined with secondary woods like oak or pine for internal framing and drawer linings, complemented by brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, historical oxidisation and patina on the timber, hand-turned elements, and absence of modern machine marks.

An antique mahogany cabinet provides textural contrast and historical grounding when paired with contemporary neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and clean-lined upholstered furnishings.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying pure beeswax to nourish the wood finish.
