This nineteenth-century English country style storage bench dates from 1880 and comes from the stables of a large country house. Constructed from pine, iron and paint, the piece presents a distressed teal blue finish, a four-panel backrest, a hinged seat lid, enclosed base storage and a plinth base. Visible details include raised and recessed rectangular panels on the front base and backrest, vertical timber boarding across the long seat, and worn, aged paint showing lighter undertones around the edges and hardware points. The large furniture item measures 102 cm high, 249 cm wide and 64 cm deep with a seat height of 60 cm. Suitable for country house hallways, rustic boot rooms, large kitchens or open-plan living areas, the bench offers deep internal storage beneath the lifting seat lid alongside extensive surface seating for daily household use.
