Rare Japanese Edo (19thC) boxwood netsuke of a tortoise and young (Oyako) signed Masakichi. It is unusual to see a tortoise netsuke with its young on its back. The tortoise is hidden within its beautifully carved carapace with the baby tortoise held fast by the himotoshi cord which is tied to its underside. Height 2.5cm, width 5cm, depth 3.5cm
