Japanese Meiji boxwood netsuke of shimeji mushrooms, signed Masanao. Finely carved as a cluster of five shimeji mushrooms, densely packed together, forming a pleasingly tactile and compact composition. Note the contrast between the smoothly polished caps and incised radial gills. Has a natural’ himotoshi through one of the stems and is signed on the base, Masanao. Height 4cm, width 3.5cm
