Description

This is a really striking tribal sculpture from the Senufo people of West Africa Ivory Coast dating from around 1900. The carved wood mask stands upon four animal horns with a further 13 as decoration. The head is adorned with shells and beadwork as well as a beadwork raffia panel to the back. The carving has a stylised Senufo bird seated atop on a perch with fist carved supports with inset shark teeth and a further clenched fist carving to the centre with woven raffia and shell bracelet.

This s a real showpiece of good scale measuring 105 cms high 75 cms in width by 36 cms deep overall.
