Atmospheric and highly decorative classical bust study, having distressed multiple surface layers of decaying paint over the red stone-ware . Well-modelled and detailed , near life-size head study of the iconic statue of the goddess.

After the marble original sculpted by Antonio Canova in 1819 in Florence, to replace the Venus Medici statue which had been removed from Italy to Paris by Napoleon Bonaparte .
