C19th parian-ware porcelain bust study of the “Apollo Belvedere”.

Crisply-modelled library or desk-top study of the god taken from the full-size life-size statue Greco-Romano sculpture known as the “Apollo Belvedere” , which is exhibited in the Belvedere courtyard of the Vatican museums, Rome , Italy .

This study produced and stamped to rear by the “Art Union , London February 1861” . Also stamped to verso C. Delpech , as a reference to the artist responsible for this interpretation.

The pure white parian porcelain, taking its name from the pristine white marble quarried from the Greek island of Paros ,and having been used in antiquity for the finest sculptures.

The head of the god is depicted slightly turned with a filet or cloth band in his curled hair , a cloak draped across his shoulders fastened with a clasp.

The Greek and Roman god Apollo was one of the Olympian deities, and revered and worshipped in both religions as a protector from evil .

Raised on a turned circular socle base .

In excellent original condition with no damage or repairs.
