Curious Antiques has dated this piece to the Before 1700 period.
Most probably temple pieces one statue depicts Buddha and has the traditional void in the rear where prayers/scripts could be placed. The face and pose are serene, and Buddha is depicted standing on a lotus leaf a traditional symbol of enlightenment. The second statue is a monk/sage/attendant figure and again it is beautifully carved and depicted. The wood has taken on great colour/patina. Both statues are heavy (2.2kg combined weight), structurally sound but have at some point in their lives been ravaged by woodworm. This is long dormant but treated anyway and the wear/losses/holes are now part of the character of the statues.
