George IV and Duke of York in Wax Under Glass Domes

19th century
Sold by Cella
Description

Rare surviving pair of wax busts of George IV (1762-1830) and his brother Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany (1763-1827) by Morison. David Morison (1792-1855) was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy and it is possible the 1822 wax relief of Lord Catlereagh in the National Portrait Gallery is by him. The busts mounted on square classical plinths and presented in their original glass domed cases. Both inscribed on reverse: London Published by T Flint May 1827 D Morison Fecit. Small loses and cracks. Fascinating early 19th century busts in original cases with a very rare depiction of the Grand Olde Duke of York. English, 1827.
