Japanese Meiji (19thC) boxwood netsuke of a toad on an old well bucket. Realistically carved, the small amphibian is portayed dozing off on the top of a wooden bucket, the sides with minute metal studs. Signed Masanao on the bottom, probably for Masanao of Yamada, Ise Province. Measures 3.5 x 3 x 2.6cm.
Lovely condition and patina.
