Description

Unusual Japanese Edo (early 19thC) boxwood Netsuke of a Sleeping Farmer, the exhausted man having fallen asleep on a large folded plantain leaf, his head between his crossed arms, wearing a long tunic with a sickle at his belt. Probably Kyoto School, the netsuke is unsigned. Measures 2.4 x 4 x 2.8cm.

Beautifully carved with a lovely patina. A little gem.
