Charming sculpture of a stylised deer, carved stone and dates from the Tang Dynasty 618-907. Deer were symbols of longevity in Chinese culture as they were believed to have a long life span. This sculpture was probably part of a larger tableau, perhaps including one of the Chinese gods of immortality.
