M Lees and Sons has dated this piece to the 1880s.
. Excavated from Vesuvius-stricken buried Herculaneum in 1754 from the Villa of the Papyri , where it had adorned a swimming pool in the middle of the perstilium or colonnaded garden. The sculpture depicts a follower of the wine god Dionysus in inebriated repose .

Excellent attention to detail with a rich consistent patina and colour .
The original 1st century BC Roman bronze statue now displayed in the Naples Archaeological Museum in Italy .
