A Well Executed French Bronze of Napoleon on Horseback Circa 1825-1850

Description

This bronze has similarities to Jacques-Louis David's circa 1801 oil painting of Napoleon Crossing the Alps, in celebration of the French Victory over the Austrians at the Battle of Marengo. It is crisply cast with some particularly fine detail and retains a good overall nicely aged colour save for the ormolu mounts which have been re-gilded. The French Napoleonic crowned Imperial eagle is gilt copper.

The overall height of the figure and plinth totals 45.5cms and the base of the plinth has a maximum width of 22cms and a maximum depth of 12.2cms.

CONDITION. Presented in very good condition with wear, marks and surface blemishes consistent with its age. The whole has been lightly waxed to both enhance and preserve its finish.
