A 19 th century bronze sculpture of a Ewe and suckling lamb by Pierre jules mène. The ewe has a bell around her neck and the bronze is of fine quality and detail with a good dark brown patina . Signed P.J. MÈNE 1845.
Pierre jules mène 1810-1879 Paris the most famous animal sculptor after Barye ,first worked for his father who was a metal -turner. He made his debut at the salon of 1838 and became popular very quickly .After his death the susse foundry acquired the rights to reproduce the models and produced post humous proof marked , susse foundeur éditeur Paris.
