Coyly portrayed elegant bust and upper torso study of the celebrated early C19th Parisian society hostess and beauty of the Napoleonic French Empire period , Juliette Recamier (1777-1849) was sculpted by Joseph Chinard (1756-1813) in 1801.

The study shows the subject holding a diaphanous veil or shawl across her chest , demurely concealing and yet revealing her breast , her hair upswept and wrapped in a scarf with a comb in the curls .
Well carved and highly decorative statuary marble bust in excellent condition with no damage or repairs .
Raised on an integrally carved socle base .
