Bruno Zach Austrian Art Deco Bronze "Cabaret Dancer" C.1920

Original Austrian art deco bronze of a scantily clad cabaret dancer, wearing a beaded headdress holding plumes of feathers, balancing on one foot, with leg outstretched c.1920. Evocative of "the Roaring Twenties" attributed to Bruno Zach.

Bruno Zach (sometimes spelt Zack) was born in the town of Schitomir, Ukraine on the May 6, 1891, and died on February 20 1945 in Vienna. He studied at the Vienna Academy under Hans Bitterlich and Josef Mullner.

Zach worked for various foundries in Vienna. Subjects of Zach's bronze works include western, orientalist, sporting, animalier, art deco and erotic subjects.

Bruno Zach worked between the years of 1918 and 1935, reveling in the spirit of Art Deco. Although he executed some graceful moving statues, this Berlin based sculptor devoted most of his energy and talents to the exotic. Zach loved to render his world of exotic nightlife in his work, especially the prostitutes with whom he loved to socialize. In fact, one prostitute with whom Zach was in love refused to marry him, leading to the work Hearts.

Gold gilt finish and cold painted detail to her garments.

Mounted on a marble plinth.

Condition: Very good. Just some slight wear to the gilt, and couple of tiny nicks to elbows. Professional repair to rear of base, as shown in photos.
