A Panther and Cub Group by Georges Lavroff, Circa 1930

A maquette* sculpture of a panther and cub, by Georges Lavroff (active/ lived in Russian Federation, 1895 - 1991), circa 1930, modelled as a growling panther beside her seated cub, the rich black patination with gilt highlights, mounted on a black rectangular wooden base.

*A maquette (French word for scale model, sometimes referred to by the Italian names plastico or modello) is a small scale model or rough draft of an unfinished sculpture. An equivalent term is bozzetto, from the Italian word that means "sketch".

When this sculpture was put into production, versions were made in bronze and ceramic.
