Well-cast French or Italian bronze bust portrait study of the mythological Greek warrior hero, Ajax .
Son of King Telamon , he plays an important role and is portrayed as a towering figure and a warrior of great courage in Homer's 'Iliad' and in the 'Epic Cycle' , a series of epic poems about the Trojan Wars.

Good cast detail to the helmet featuring eagles, centaurs and panthers amongst the decoration . The body and shoulders with a parcel-gilt outlined sash detail and gilded button to the robe. The head faced to right or 'dexter' .

Raised on turned gilded bronze socle base with square section plinth below.
Has a good dark patination with some minor rubbing caused by cleaning, commensurate with age. The gilded bronze base with minor wear and rubbing.
