of great charm; from the renouned 'Eric Bramall Collection'; the standing figure leaning forward with his hunchback, and hands clasped behind his back, dressed in traditional costume with his intricately carved ruff collar; having the unusual feature of standing on a carved rug with scrolled decoration and a slight wavy edge; raised on a plinth base.

Good colour and patination.
The underside retaining label "Eric Bramall Collection D/15". Eric Bramall was a renouned theatre puppeteer and antiques collector.
The carving is probably Launcelot Gobbo from Shakespeare's 'Merchant of Venice'
